Getting around Lanzarote
Puerto del Carmen, Arrecife, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca are all on bus lines, several of them every 20 to 30 minutes. If you stay in one of them, you can do without a car for most of your holiday.
The buses are run by Intercity Bus (arrecifebus.com). Timetables change with the season and some lines run fewer buses, or none, on Sundays and holidays, so check your line on their website before you travel. We checked the times on this page on 27 October 2026.
The north and Timanfaya are harder. For those, a tour, a taxi or a long bike ride does the job (see below).
From the airport
Line 161 runs from the airport to Puerto del Carmen (about 21 minutes), Puerto Calero, Yaiza and Playa Blanca (about 55 minutes). Buses leave the airport between 7:30 and 21:30, every 30 minutes from 9:00 to 16:30.
To Arrecife, line 22 runs on weekdays and line 23 at weekends.
There's no direct bus from the airport to Costa Teguise. Take a bus to Arrecife and change to line 1 or line 3.
A taxi is the quicker option. The published fares we found disagree with each other, so ask the driver for the price before you set off.
Buses between the resorts
Line 3 runs along the coast from Costa Teguise through Arrecife to Puerto del Carmen, every 20 minutes from about 7:00 to 22:00.
From Arrecife to Playa Blanca you have line 60, via Tías and Yaiza (about 55 minutes), and line 62, a faster bus via Tías (about 42 minutes to Playa Blanca bus station). Each runs about 20 times a day.
The Bono General card costs €2, takes top-ups of €5 to €50 and gives 10% off every trip; one card can pay for several people travelling together. Free bus travel in the Canary Islands is for residents only.
What buses don't reach
Timanfaya: no bus goes to the Montañas del Fuego. Inside the park you can only see the Ruta de los Volcanes from the park's own coach, which is included in the €30 ticket. Tickets are sold online for a set day and time. Without a car, take a tour or a taxi.
Papagayo beaches: the beaches are free on foot or by bike (cars pay €3). From Playa Blanca it's about 5 km on foot, or a mountain bike ride on dirt tracks.
Mirador del Río: no bus stops there. Line 8 ends in Yé, on the road to the Mirador. By bike it's a long, hilly day out.
Famara: line 20 runs from Arrecife on weekdays only (about 34 minutes), and line 31 from Costa Teguise via Teguise.
By bike
The east coast is almost flat. From Costa Teguise it's about 9 km to Arrecife on a promenade with a bike path, and from there you ride through Playa Honda on signed cycle streets to Puerto del Carmen, about 15 km. A city bike is all you need for that.
For the hills and the wind inland, take an e-bike: up to 50 km a charge. Since 1 October 2026, Spanish law says cyclists must wear a helmet outside towns, and under-16s everywhere. Our helmets are €1 a day.
We bring the bike to your hotel, apartment or villa, free, and pick it up on your last day. The minimum rental is 3 days.
Boats to the other islands
From Playa Blanca, ferries cross to Corralejo in Fuerteventura in about half an hour (Fred. Olsen, Naviera Armas and Líneas Romero). From Órzola in the north, boats go to La Graciosa in about 25 minutes.
